Austria is located in central Europe. They have many festivals like the Salzburg Festival, Haydn Festival in Vienna, and one of the best is the International Chamber Music Festival. The capital of the country is Vienna which is also the musical capital of Europe. The romantic castles is definitely one of the most beautiful that I have seen. The Schloss Durnstein has the best view besides the River Danube. Keep in mind that you have to pay a 10% tip for taxi drivers, which is customary in the country.
Culture in Austria
German, Hungarian, Slovene, and Croatian are the most spoken languages in Austria. Austrian are greeting with a handshake. If you are talking to someone for the first time, you should speak with them using their last name, after getting to know each other you can start to call them with their first name. To greet people you can say Guten Tag or Gruss Gott and Auf Wiedersehen if you are leaving. I’ve seen that people really enjoy when you bring flower when you come to their house. If you are wondering what the locals likes as activities, it is horse riding. You will find in Austria the world’s best art of horsemanship. This is as old as 400 years. If you are planning to watch the horses perform, it is better to book your ticket as early as possible. If you go to a restaurant, you may find that the bill is slightly higher, this is due to the 5% extra charge which is the tip for the waiter.
How to get to Austria
The national airlines in Austria are the Austrian Arrows, the Austrian Airlines and finaly the Lausda Air. The Vienna airport is about 18 km from the city. You can go the city by taking the Airport buses which will bring you to the South Train and West Train Station.
If you think about getting to the Salzburg airport, it is located 4 km away from the city. You can take the bus, train or taxis to go to your hotel from the airport. If you need some local currency, you will find kiosk that would exchange it for you but it is better to use the ATM. Like most of the airports you will have the restaurants, duty free shops and car hire at the airport. The other airports are Klagenfurt airport, Graz airport and Linz airport.
International tourists has many options to get to Austria. You can get there by taking the Austrian Federal railways. The network connects all the major cities in Austria and the neighboring countries. You can get the Eurail pass to travel around Austria as they provide unlimited travel and many interesting deals.
If you want to get to Autria by road, you can take Eurotunnel when crossing the Channel Tunnel during your roadtrip. You can book cars in advance at the airports. Keep in mind that the laws for seat belts are very strict in the country. If you are riding a motorbike, you must wear a high visibility jacket and helmet. IT is compulsory for the driver and the passenger.
